As the Cobra glided past
It was a normal boring Sunday morning – nothing much happening. So as usual it was the weekly pilgrimage up along the sidewalk towards Brumby’s on the corner for a loaf of bread. A couple hundred meters of concrete with nothing much to do other than watch cars pass me by.
But then without warning, the ground started to tremble and shake – the vibrations forcing their way through the Reeboks up the spine into the base of my skull!
A regular beating of the drum – deep and distant – strangely intense – terrifying.
Concerned I tried to focus – find the source of the disturbance.
Further up the road I saw something clinging to the tarmac. This was definitely no jack hammer as it slowly crept forwards into view.
Barely an inch above the tarmac was a silver Shelby AC Cobra, glistening in the early morning light.
Pure raw horsepower had by some miracle been captured and bolted to the Cobra chassis. Noticeably upset, these horses shook the bonnet feverishly. The low profile rubber tried in vain to contain the angry beat but still the ground shook uncontrollably.
Between the the beats I could hear the captured Cobra horses gasping for air through a supercharger mouth piece. Every breath sucked in and consumed under the bonnet was exhaled through a lowly roar of the quad chromed exhaust pipes bolted down on both sides of the slick intimidating Cobra shell.
How could a V8 be this intimidating? Maybe buried under the hood was a V12?
As the Cobra glided past, I could see the low profile rubber hanging feverishly onto the chromed mag wheel rims struggling to contain the horses – almost tearing up the tarmac as it tried to exercise restraint.
The rear tires filled the entire back end.
Rather than show themselves by extending into the light, they hid within almost meeting under the middle venomous Cobra stripe.
Understandably awesome thundering horsepower demanded serious rubber.
As if almost sensing my fear and admiration, the Cobra poison bit the tarmac – the occupants thrust back into their seats as the horsepower was unleashed.
The Cobra first roared then lunged forward only to cross the changing traffic light and disappear from sight.
